How to use it
- Target 30–50 ppm for chlorine pools and 60–80 ppm for salt pools.
- Add it slowly: in a sock in the skimmer or pre-dissolved; a test can take a week to show it all.
- Too high? Only replacing water lowers it.
Example: new 15,000 gallon pool, CYA 0 → 40 ppm
- Raise by 40 ppm
- = 5 lb of stabilizer
- (2.3 kg)
About 5 lb of cyanuric acid.
Every pool test kit has some error, and products vary in strength, so treat any dose as a starting point: add most of it, circulate, retest, then top up. Never mix chemicals together, and add each one separately to the pool.
Frequently asked questions
How much stabilizer per 10,000 gallons?
About 13.4 oz raises CYA by 10 ppm in 10,000 gallons.
How do I lower stabilizer?
Replace water: draining 25% of the pool and refilling lowers CYA by about 25%. Products sold to "reduce CYA" are unreliable.
Why does CYA change my chlorine target?
CYA holds chlorine in reserve, so less of it is active. Free chlorine needs to stay at about 7.5–11.5% of CYA to keep sanitizing.
