How to use it
- Plaster / pebble: 250–450 ppm. Vinyl / fiberglass: 50–400 ppm.
- Dissolve calcium chloride in a bucket of pool water first: it gets hot.
- Too high? Only replacing water lowers it.
Example: 15,000 gallon plaster pool, CH 200 → 350 ppm, flake 77%
- Raise by 150 ppm
- = 27 lb of calcium chloride flake
About 27 lb of 77% calcium chloride.
Every pool test kit has some error, and products vary in strength, so treat any dose as a starting point: add most of it, circulate, retest, then top up. Never mix chemicals together, and add each one separately to the pool.
Frequently asked questions
How much calcium chloride raises hardness by 10 ppm?
About 1.2 lb of 77% flake per 10,000 gallons.
Do vinyl pools need calcium?
Much less than plaster: 50–400 ppm is fine, and many vinyl pools never need any added.
